• Petition for Student Teaching: If you are in EDYS 300 and planning on student teaching, please fill out this form. It will help us gather initial information for your placement, state reporting, as well as help us for to be sure that you are on track to meet all the requirements for teacher certification.
• Student Teaching Agreement Form: This form serves as an initial step for those who are planning on student teaching. This form helps collect necessary data and start initial conversations between student, cooperating teacher, and principal. This form is to be filled out at the beginning of the semester prior to your student teaching semester.

• Wisconsin Teacher Standards Evaluation Form Throughout the duration of your coursework at the college, each candidate pursuing teacher licensure will be evaluated by the Wisconsin Teacher standards. According to Wisconsin state statue PI34.002

If you are interested in study abroad, student teaching abroad, or doing fieldwork abroad, we encourage you to have a collaborative conversation with both your EDYS advisor as well as the study abroad office for optimum support throughout your study abroad experience. For those EDYS students who do not intend to certify to teach, early conversations with the study abroad office are encouraged to find the best fit for your youth studies interests.

Students wishing to student teach farther than 30 miles from Beloit must petition the Department for permission. This petition should include a clear statement of the benefits to be gained from this placement, in terms of potential for

• working with diverse populations,
• learning about, and practicing, pluralistic approaches to pedagogy and curriculum,
• teaching in distinctive schools with distinctive cooperating teachers and pupils, or
• community involvement.

Approved student teaching placements outside the Beloit-Janesville-Rockford area will be subject to an additional fee to defray transportation costs for supervision, which will be billed to the student’s Beloit College account. Placements are made in consultation with the student, and we try to consider the students’ needs, strengths and future plans.

Student teaching may take place in the spring/summer semesters with departmental approval, under the following conditions:

Overseas Student Teaching

Whenever possible Beloit College faculty will visit all overseas student teaching placements, at no additional expense to the student. In most cases, overseas student teaching placements will be made through the University of Minnesota, Morris Global Student Teach Program (http.www.educatorsabroad.org). Students must complete at least one unit of student teaching, with seminar on campus, before beginning overseas student teaching. Please meet with your EDYS advisor as well as talk to the study abroad office early to begin talking through the great options awaiting educators.  

Completion of Multiple Certifications

(Art/Foreign Language + MC/EA, e.g.) Supervision of up to 9 weeks of student teaching, may be available and provided by Beloit College faculty/staff to students who have completed one of their certifications in the previous fall semester. There may be additional costs to cover travel and supervision.

Domestic Student Teaching

Students may contract with an accredited teacher education program in another location for supervision/administration of student teaching. Students are responsible for all costs of supervision. Visits to domestic student teaching placements by Beloit College faculty will be at the discretion of the Department. Normally students must complete at least one unit of student teaching, with seminar, on campus before beginning off-campus student teaching with non-Beloit College supervision.

Aside from personal transport, there are multiple options to get transportation to local schools, including car sharing, local buses, and taxis.

The Career Works office has vehicles available for student use.

If you would like to rent a school van, talk to a professor or the EDYS office about getting a van form. Van drivers must have a driver’s license and be approved by the Security office prior to using a school van.
